2004 Volkswagen New Beetle Air Filter Box Housing Airbox Intake Case
Engine-bay intake filter housing supplied as pictured. Please use the fitment-lock section below before ordering.
Confirmed from this listing: 2004 Volkswagen Beetle / New Beetle donor description, Volkswagen-branded air filter housing, used component.
Not yet confirmed from the listing photographs: donor VIN, engine code and a fully readable moulded Volkswagen part number.
Visual + catalogue candidate: 1J0 129 607 S / 1J0129607S. The physical layout shown in the listing closely resembles this housing, but we do not treat a visual resemblance as final fitment. Match the complete number on your existing housing or send your 17-character VIN through eBay Messages for verification before purchase.
Do not order from registration, model name or year alone. Volkswagen used different airboxes across New Beetle engines and production variants.
Actual item photographs
These are photographs from this eBay item and are the primary reference for connectors, mounting points, flange shape, ports and condition.

Correct vehicle-family reference — New Beetle 1.6
Reference vehicle only — not the donor vehicle. These photographs show a 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle Luna 1.6 from the same New Beetle model family in which the candidate housing is catalogued. They are included to help buyers distinguish the rounded New Beetle generation from the later 2011-on Beetle.
Under the bonnet in the engine intake tract. The airbox holds and seals the air-filter element, routes filtered air toward the engine and provides the outlet interface used by the intake hose / air-flow-meter arrangement on applicable versions. It is not an electronic control unit; its job is to maintain a sealed, correctly shaped filtered-air path and support the associated intake connections.

Catalogue cross-reference engine codes associated with 1J0129607S sources include selected 1.6 petrol applications such as APF, AVU, AEH, AYD, AKL and BFS; BFQ is also reported on a Mk4 application by a specialist dismantler. Engine-code references are not a substitute for VIN confirmation.
Known exclusions / do not assume fitment
- 2011-on Volkswagen Beetle / 5C generation: this is a different Beetle generation.
- New Beetle engines using a different housing number. Catalogue examples include AWU using 1C0 129 607 D, while AZJ / BER / BHP / BEV applications use 1C0 129 607 R.
- 1.4 petrol, 1.8T, 1.9 TDI and other engine families: do not order unless your VIN catalogue specifically returns the same complete part number and the physical ports / mountings match.
- Vehicles with an auxiliary air-pump arrangement where the candidate 1J0129607S catalogue reference is specifically excluded.
- Any car whose current housing has a different MAF flange, intake/breather ports, snorkel interface, fixing points or complete moulded part number.
Why replace a damaged airbox?
Possible symptoms
- Cracked housing, broken lid or missing / damaged mounting points
- Loose or rattling airbox in the engine bay
- Induction hiss / whistle from a poor seal or cracked intake connection
- Filter not seating or sealing correctly
- Visible dirt bypass / contamination risk downstream of the filter
- Possible air-flow related driveability symptoms or fault codes if a leak affects the downstream MAF / intake connection
Why a factory-original used housing?
- Vehicle-designed mounting geometry and hose / sensor interfaces
- Correct internal volume and moulding geometry for the intended application
- Better chance of original clip, flange and grommet alignment than an inaccurately moulded low-cost copy
- Re-use keeps a serviceable part in circulation instead of manufacturing another housing
- Used parts can offer substantial savings versus new; on selected parts the saving may be as much as 70%, depending on the current new retail price and availability.
Fitting guide
1Prepare safely. Park securely, switch the engine off, remove the key and allow hot components to cool. Open the bonnet and protect painted panels.
2Record the existing layout. Photograph the intake hose, electrical connector and any breather / snorkel connections before removal.
3Disconnect the intake connections. Release the hose clamp, intake hose and MAF electrical connector where fitted. Remove any connected intake pipe / snorkel carefully.
4Open the housing if required. Undo the airbox-cover screws / clips and lift the cover. Remove the filter element if it needs to be transferred or renewed. Prevent debris entering the open intake tract.
5Remove the lower housing. Release the housing from its fitted fasteners, rubber mounts or grommets as present on your exact vehicle. Do not lever aggressively on aged plastic.
6Compare before installation. Put old and replacement housings side-by-side. Confirm every port, flange, fixing point, grommet position and the complete part number before fitting.
7Transfer required service parts. Transfer sound grommets, seals, sensor / MAF and filter only where needed and only if they are not included with the replacement.
8Reassemble and test. Seat the housing correctly, reconnect hoses and electrical plugs, secure the cover, check for trapped wiring and start the engine. Check for intake leaks, abnormal noise and warning lamps.
Typical tools
- Phillips screwdriver
- Water-pump / hose-clip pliers
- Microfibre cloth
- Fender / wing cover
- Small socket / ratchet or trim tool may be required depending on the exact vehicle fasteners
Exact fastener sizes are not stated because they vary by vehicle / previous repairs and have not been verified from the donor VIN.
Estimated workshop time
Allow approximately 0.5-1.0 labour hour for a straightforward housing change by a competent technician. This is a planning estimate, not a manufacturer flat-rate time. Corroded clips, damaged hoses, broken mounts or diagnosis can increase labour.
Fitting / repair service available subject to workshop availability. Please arrange through eBay Messages before travelling.

|---|---|---|---|
| £60/hour | £30 | £45 | £60 |
| £80/hour | £40 | £60 | £80 |

Delivery, checkout address & international orders
Worldwide eBay shipping: international orders are sent through the eBay Global Shipping Programme / eBay international delivery flow where the item and destination are eligible. Available destinations, delivery charges, import charges and customs handling are determined by eBay and shown to the buyer at checkout.
Address accuracy: please ensure the delivery address shown at eBay checkout is complete and correct before payment. We cannot manually redirect an order to a different address after the transaction has been placed; a cancellation and new order may be required where permitted.
Packaging: used automotive parts are packed to protect vulnerable flanges, ports and mounting points during transit.
Fitment help, returns & VAT wording
Buy the correct part first time: if you are unsure, send the 17-character VIN and, where possible, a clear photograph of your existing part number / connector layout through eBay Messages before purchase. We will compare the available catalogue information rather than guessing from registration alone.
Returns: return requests are handled under the return policy shown on this eBay listing and applicable eBay / consumer rules. A blanket restocking fee is not charged. Any permitted deduction must relate to the returned item's condition / loss of value and must comply with eBay rules.
VAT: qualifying second-hand parts may be sold under the VAT Margin Scheme / Global Accounting rules where applicable. VAT is not separately itemised on qualifying margin-scheme goods.
Supporting reuse, local business & responsible parts supply
♻️ Choosing a serviceable used factory-original component helps keep usable automotive parts in circulation, reduces premature disposal and can avoid the material and manufacturing demand associated with replacing every failed component with a newly produced one. It also supports an independent local automotive parts business while giving buyers a lower-cost route to keeping an existing vehicle on the road.
💷 Depending on the part and the current new retail price, buying used can deliver substantial savings — on selected components this may be as much as 70% compared with buying new. Actual savings vary by part, availability and market price.
Stock & dispatch — illustrative logistics image
📦 Orders are prepared for dispatch with protection appropriate to used automotive components. Vulnerable plastic housings and fittings should be supported so that exposed flanges, clips and mounting points are not used as load-bearing packing surfaces.
