Later replacement number 65209204421 does not automatically prove that this earlier used revision is suitable for a later vehicle.

HOW TO CONFIRM BEFORE ORDERING:

2. Remove enough upper tailgate trim to read the current amplifier label safely.
3. Compare every digit of the BMW number and compare all plugs, sockets and mounting points with the listing photographs.

The module amplifies the rear-window FM aerial signals and uses diversity switching to provide the radio with the aerial signal offering the best reception. It helps compensate for signal loss in the aerial wiring.

On E81/E87 vehicles, this rear diversity unit should not be purchased as a first-line cure for remote-key or central-locking range faults because those systems use a separate receiver arrangement.

Similar symptoms can also be caused by broken tailgate wiring, poor earth connections, damaged rear-window aerial tracks, water ingress, a roof-aerial base fault or the radio itself. Diagnose the system before replacing parts.

Typical Replacement Sequence

1. Park safely, switch off the ignition, remove the key and allow vehicle systems to power down.
2. Disconnect the battery negative terminal only when you understand the vehicle’s battery and memory procedures.
3. Open and support the tailgate. Carefully release the upper inner trim near the high-level brake light.
4. Photograph and label the coaxial and electrical connections before removal.
5. Release connector locks without pulling on the cables, then remove the module fasteners.
6. Inspect the loom, aerial tracks, earth points and surrounding area for moisture, corrosion or broken wires.
7. Fit the matching replacement, lock every connector fully and refit the trim without trapping cables.
8. Reconnect the battery where disconnected, then test several FM stations with the tailgate open and closed.
