This lamp mounts into the right-hand rear outer corner of the E36 4-door Saloon body. Access to its retaining hardware and electrical connector is from inside the luggage compartment behind the right-side trim/service area.

The rear combination lamp provides the lens, housing, bulb positions, electrical conductor carrier and mounting interface for the vehicle's rear lighting functions. Depending on the vehicle wiring and bulb-carrier configuration, those functions include rear position/tail lighting, brake lighting, right direction indication, reversing-light function and the catalogued rear-fog-light arrangement.
