- Switch off the ignition. Note any radio/security code and stored settings, then disconnect the negative battery terminal if the electrical socket will be disturbed.
- Open the ashtray and remove the loose ash insert where fitted.
- Locate and remove the two Phillips mounting screws within the ashtray area.
- Use a plastic trim tool and gentle hand pressure to ease the complete housing forward. Do not lever aggressively against brittle dashboard trim.
- Photograph and label the 12-volt positive, earth and illumination connections before disconnecting them.
- Compare the old and replacement assemblies side by side. Transfer only the necessary lighter element, bulb or insert if compatible and serviceable.
- Reconnect the wiring, temporarily reconnect the battery and test the lighter/accessory socket and illumination. Never leave the socket energised if it becomes hot or shows damage.
- Disconnect the battery again if required, seat the assembly evenly, refit the screws without overtightening, then complete a final operational check.
