WHAT THIS COMPONENT DOES

The exterior handle carrier / base provides the mounting and pivot structure behind the front-left outer door handle. When the exterior grip is pulled, the carrier and linkage transfer that movement toward the door-release mechanism.

It is therefore an important mechanical interface between the outer handle and the door-latch operating system. It is not the complete door latch or central-locking actuator.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF A DAMAGED HANDLE CARRIER

These symptoms can also be caused by the latch, cable/rod, retaining clips, lock mechanism or adjustment. Diagnose the fault and compare the original component before ordering.

GENERAL FITTING GUIDE

1. Open the front-left door and protect the surrounding paint and trim.
2. Remove the interior door-card fasteners and carefully release the trim panel with plastic trim tools.
3. Disconnect any electrical plugs attached to the door trim where applicable.
4. Carefully peel back the moisture membrane sufficiently to gain access to the handle mechanism.
5. Photograph the original linkage / rod / clip positions before dismantling.
6. Release the exterior-handle linkage and relevant retaining clips without forcing aged plastic components.
7. Release the exterior grip / retaining arrangement as required by the installed configuration.
8. Remove the original handle base / carrier.
9. Compare the removed component with this replacement: number, “LI” marking, mounting points, pivot and linkage interface.
10. Transfer any lock cylinder, trim piece, clip or hardware not included with the replacement where required.
11. Reconnect the linkage and secure the carrier.
12. Test locking, unlocking and both inner/outer release functions several times while the door is still OPEN.
13. Reseal the moisture membrane and refit the door card and trim.
