Professional Fitting Guide — SRS Safety Applies
Recommended: installation by a trained mechanic. The driver airbag system contains a pyrotechnic device. Incorrect handling can cause injury, warning lights or damage.
- Park with the road wheels straight, switch ignition off and remove the key.
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait the manufacturer-specified SRS discharge period; commonly at least 10-15 minutes, but follow the workshop manual.
- Release the rear airbag retainers, lift the module carefully and disconnect SRS/horn plugs using the correct locking method. Store the airbag padded side upward in a safe place.
- Mark the original wheel-to-shaft alignment. Disconnect any remaining connectors.
- Loosen the centre fastener while retaining the wheel, then remove the wheel. Use a suitable puller only if required.
- Keep the clockspring centred and inspect it for damage. Never rotate it freely with the wheel removed.
- Fit the replacement wheel on the alignment mark. Tighten the centre fastener to the vehicle manufacturer's specified torque — do not guess the torque value.
- Refit the compatible horn/airbag module, reconnect the battery and verify centred steering, horn operation and that the SRS warning lamp completes its normal self-check.
