Tools normally required
10 mm socket or deep socket, ratchet and extension, plastic trim tool, work gloves, clean cloth, electrical contact cleaner and a test lamp or multimeter if diagnosis is required.
- Park safely, apply the handbrake, switch off the ignition and remove the key. Allow the lighting circuit to power down.
- Open the tailgate and carefully move or remove the left-side boot access trim to expose the lamp connector and retaining hardware.
- Disconnect the electrical plug without pulling the wires. Check the plug and earth contacts for heat damage or corrosion.
- Support the lamp from outside, remove the retaining nut/fastener and release any locating pins. A 10 mm tool is commonly used.
- Withdraw the lamp straight and evenly. Do not lever against the painted body or twist the plastic mounting points.
- Clean the body aperture and inspect the seal. Compare the replacement code, connector, bulb carrier and mounts with the removed lamp.
