| Vehicle / situation | Fitment status | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 407 Coupe / chassis 6C_ | Not confirmed by this listing | Different body/SRS equipment may use a different calibration or module configuration. |
| 407 1.8 petrol, 2.0 petrol, 2.2 petrol/diesel, 2.7 HDi or any engine not listed above | Not confirmed by this listing | Some external catalogues may show the same base number, but exact SRS equipment and software can differ. |
| Peugeot 307, Citroen C5 or any other vehicle | Not confirmed | A shared casing or partial number does not prove compatible software, sensors, airbags or pretensioners. |
| 2011-on vehicles | Not confirmed by this listing | The verified listing compatibility range ends at 2010. |
| Any unit with a different Peugeot number, Autoliv number, suffix/index, connector keying or mounting | Do not substitute | Match the complete label and physical configuration. |
| Vehicle with deployed airbags or pretensioners | Diagnosis required | Replacing the ECU alone may not repair the complete restraint system; crash-damaged components and wiring must be inspected. |
SRS system control
This module is the central electronic controller for the supplemental restraint system. It receives information from the vehicle's restraint sensors, monitors system circuits, stores diagnostic faults and coordinates airbag and seat-belt pretensioner deployment when the programmed conditions are met.
A correct module must match the vehicle's installed airbags, pretensioners, sensor arrangement and software configuration.
Typical fitting position
Mounted centrally on the transmission/centre tunnel under the lower centre console, close to the gear lever or handbrake area. The exact trim panels removed can vary with gearbox and interior specification.
The casing arrow marked forward must face the front of the vehicle.
↓
ILLUSTRATIVE TOP-DOWN CABIN LOCATION GUIDEApproximate module position: beneath the lower centre console on the centre tunnel, ahead of or close to the gear lever/handbrake zone.
- SRS / airbag warning lamp remains illuminated after the normal self-test.
- Dashboard message referring to an airbag or seat-belt pretensioner fault.
- Diagnostic tool reports no communication, internal control-unit fault or stored crash-event data.
- Fault codes return immediately after being cleared.
- The restraint system is disabled or partially disabled until the underlying fault is repaired.
- Read and save all SRS diagnostic trouble codes before disconnecting anything. Confirm the ECU itself is the fault rather than a wiring, voltage, sensor, pretensioner or airbag issue.
- Park safely, centre the steering, switch off the ignition, remove the key and allow the vehicle electrical network to shut down.
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal following the vehicle manufacturer's procedure, then wait at least 10 minutes before touching any SRS connector.
- Carefully remove the required lower centre-console and gear-lever/handbrake trim using non-marking trim tools.
- Locate the module on the centre tunnel. Photograph the original orientation, connector locking position and complete label before removal.
- Compare the old and replacement units side by side: 9655880880, 603554600, suffix/index, connector keying, casing, mounting points and forward arrow must match.
- Release the connector lock without forcing it. Remove the mounting bolts and lift the module out while keeping it upright.
- Fit the replacement firmly in the original position with the casing arrow facing forward. Tighten the fixings evenly to the manufacturer's specified torque.
- Reconnect the locking connector, rebuild the trim and reconnect the battery using the correct vehicle procedure. Keep people away from airbag deployment paths during initial power-up.
- Use a suitable diagnostic tool to check communication, verify configuration/telecoding if required, clear permitted DTCs and confirm the SRS warning lamp completes its normal self-test.
Suggested tools
- 10mm battery terminal spanner/socket
- Ratchet, extension and suitable socket set
- Torx bit set
- Non-marking interior trim tools
- Peugeot/PSA-compatible diagnostic equipment
- Protective gloves and eye protection
Estimated workshop time
Removal and refitting: approximately 1.0-1.5 labour hours for a suitably equipped technician.
Diagnosis / configuration: allow an additional 0.5-1.0 hour where coding, crash-data investigation or further circuit testing is required.
Times are planning estimates only. Corroded fixings, trim variation, prior repairs and diagnostic complexity can increase labour.
Calculation: hourly labour rate × estimated labour hours. Select the row closest to your garage's rate. These figures are examples only and exclude the part price, diagnosis, coding, consumables, recovery and any tax charged by the garage.
| Garage rate | 1.0 hour | 1.5 hours | 2.0 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| £60 per hour | £60 | £90 | £120 |
| £80 per hour | £80 | £120 | £160 |
| £100 per hour | £100 | £150 | £200 |
| £120 per hour | £120 | £180 | £240 |
| £150 per hour | £150 | £225 | £300 |
Correct physical design
Factory-production housings, connector keying, mounting geometry and orientation markings are designed around the vehicle's restraint-system installation.
Better matching information
Permanent Peugeot and Autoliv references make it possible to compare the replacement directly with the original unit before fitting.
Lower environmental impact
Reusing a serviceable original-production part extends its working life and reduces the demand for new materials, manufacturing and disposal.
Potential cost saving
A pre-owned part can cost substantially less than a new main-dealer replacement. On selected parts and depending on current market pricing, savings may approach 70%; no fixed saving is guaranteed.
