What the part does

The expansion tank stores excess coolant as the engine heats up, helps maintain pressure in the cooling system, and gives the radiator circuit room to expand and contract safely. A failing tank can cause slow leaks, pressure loss and overheating.

Common fault symptoms

• Coolant smell around the engine bay
• Visible cracks, staining or dampness on the tank
• Low coolant warning or repeated top-ups
• Overheating or unstable temperature gauge
• Pressure loss from the cooling circuit

Fitting guide

1. Let the engine cool fully before starting.
2. Drain coolant to a safe level.
3. Unclip hoses, level sensor plug and mounting fasteners.
4. Compare old and new tank side-by-side before fitting.
5. Install the replacement tank, reconnect hoses and sensor.
6. Refill coolant and bleed the system carefully.
7. Check for leaks, correct level and stable temperature.

Required tools: basic socket set, hose clamp pliers, screwdriver set, drain tray, funnel, coolant, rags, gloves.
