FUEL VAPOUR ACTIVATED CARBON CANISTER

This component forms part of the vehicle's fuel-vapour emissions system. Activated carbon inside the canister stores petrol vapours from the fuel tank instead of allowing those vapours to escape directly to atmosphere. When operating conditions are suitable, the vehicle's purge system routes stored vapours back towards the engine so they can be burned.

The canister itself is primarily a vapour-storage component; the purge valve and engine-management system control when vapours are drawn from it. This item should therefore not be confused with the conventional liquid-fuel service filter.

1. Allow the vehicle to cool and secure it on level ground.
2. Raise and support the vehicle correctly according to workshop safety procedures.

4. Photograph the original hose routing and connections before disconnecting anything.
5. Carefully release the vapour-hose fittings. Older plastic connections can become brittle.
6. Remove the canister retaining bracket or mounting fasteners.
7. Install the replacement in the same orientation and reconnect each vapour hose fully.
8. Check surrounding hoses for cracking, damage or loose connections before reassembly.
9. Refit shields/covers and safely lower the vehicle.
10. Confirm there is no abnormal fuel-vapour smell and recheck the diagnostic system if a warning light was present.
