5-Speed Manual Gear Lever, Selector Base, Gaiter & Surround Trim

Complete floor-shift assembly removed from a 2004 right-hand-drive RAV4. Supplied exactly as shown in the item photographs.

⚠ CRITICAL FITMENT CHECK
This is for facelift vehicles built from July 2003 to November 2005, with right-hand drive and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Registration year alone is not enough. Match the chassis code, build date, gear pattern, silver/dark surround shape, white selector base, cable connections and mounting points to the photographs before ordering.

WHERE IT FITS & WHAT IT CONTROLS

The assembly is fitted in the interior centre console, directly below the gear knob and gaiter. Driver movement of the lever is transferred through the selector pivots to the transmission control cables. These cables convert fore-and-aft and side-to-side lever movement into selection of first to fifth gears and reverse at the manual transaxle.

The moulded base locates the pivot points, bushes and cable attachments. The upper surround finishes the console opening, while the gaiter helps shield the mechanism from dust and interior debris.

WHAT IS INCLUDED
5-speed manual gear lever / gearstick with visible shift pattern
Selector and retainer base shown in the photographs
Black stitched gaiter and silver/dark-grey upper surround
Mounting bushes and attached pieces visible in the item images
Transmission control cables, centre console box, gearbox, extra fasteners or any item not shown are not included.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF A WORN OR DAMAGED SHIFTER ASSEMBLY
Excessive free play or a loose, vague gear lever.
Difficulty finding one or more gears, including reverse.
Lever does not centre correctly between gear gates.
Rattling, clicking or movement from worn pivot points or mounting bushes.
Cracked, split or badly worn gaiter, damaged surround or loose gear knob.
Important: similar symptoms can also be caused by worn cables, cable-end bushes, clutch faults, engine or gearbox mounts, or an internal transmission issue. Diagnose the fault before ordering.
WHY CHOOSE A FACTORY-SUPPLIED USED PART?

A factory-supplied original-fit assembly is designed around the vehicle's exact cable travel, mounting geometry, console profile, bush locations and five-speed shift gate. This can provide a more predictable fit than an unverified low-cost pattern copy.

Buying a reusable part can also reduce the cost of keeping an older vehicle on the road. Depending on the component, availability and new-part pricing, savings can approach 70% in some cases. This is not a guaranteed saving, but it illustrates why carefully matched used parts can offer strong value.

FITTING GUIDE, TOOLS & ESTIMATED TIME
Suggested tools

Plastic trim-removal tools, cross-head screwdriver, 10 mm socket and ratchet, extension bar, long-nose pliers or a small pick for cable retainers, work light, gloves and a torque wrench where required.

General fitting sequence
1. Park on level ground, apply the handbrake, select neutral and chock the wheels. Disconnect the negative battery terminal if console electrical connectors will be disturbed.
2. Check whether the knob is threaded, then carefully remove it without forcing. Release the upper surround with plastic trim tools.
3. Remove the necessary centre-console screws and clips, labelling any electrical connectors before disconnection.
4. Photograph the cable routing. Release the cable-end joints and retaining clips without bending or damaging them.
5. Remove the selector-base mounting fasteners, lift out the old assembly and compare every mounting point and cable connection side by side.
6. Install the replacement, secure it to the vehicle manufacturer's workshop specification, reconnect the cables and verify that all retainers are fully seated.
7. Before refitting all trim, select every gear with the engine off. Reassemble the console, then perform a cautious operational check.
Planning estimate: approximately 45-75 minutes for an experienced technician when fasteners and clips release normally. Allow longer for diagnosis, damaged trim clips, seized hardware or cable issues.
