This unit is fitted in the front roof/headliner area of the passenger compartment, above the front occupants and close to the rear-view-mirror/windscreen area. It provides front cabin/courtesy illumination and the local light switching function.

The roof-light assembly provides local front interior illumination and courtesy-light switching. Depending on vehicle configuration, the switch allows the lamp to be disabled, used with the vehicle's courtesy/door-light operation or manually illuminated.

Important: a non-working courtesy light can also be caused by a fuse, wiring fault, connector, door-latch/door-switch signal or vehicle electrical-control issue. Diagnose before replacing parts.

An original Volkswagen-manufactured component was designed around the vehicle's mounting geometry, electrical connector, switch operation, lens fit and surrounding trim. 1. Switch the ignition and interior lamp off and remove the key.
2. Protect the headliner and surrounding trim with a clean cloth or suitable trim protection.
3. Use a plastic trim tool to carefully release the lens/trim at the appropriate retaining edge.
4. Expose and remove the retaining fasteners or clips applicable to your vehicle.
5. Lower the lamp assembly gently without pulling the wiring.
6. Disconnect the electrical plug by releasing its locking tab.
7. Before fitting, compare the old and replacement housings, plug arrangement and part number.
8. Connect the replacement unit and secure it in the headliner.
9. Refit the lens/trim and ensure all retaining points are fully seated.
10. Test manual illumination and courtesy/door operation before completing the job.
