FITMENT MUST BE CHECKED BEFORE ORDERING
Do not order this component from registration year alone. For the lowest possible risk of a wrong order, compare the 55202371 reference, engine code, electrical connector, hose outlets, mounting points and the photographs below.
For definitive confirmation, send your 17-character VIN through eBay Messages before purchasing. A VIN check takes priority over a generic model-year assumption.

Location and purpose

The thermostat housing is part of the engine cooling circuit and is mounted at the cylinder-head coolant outlet area on the 1.2 FIRE engine. It provides the controlled coolant route between the engine and cooling system and incorporates the thermostat arrangement and temperature-sensing connection.

The thermostat regulates coolant circulation as the engine warms up. This helps the engine reach normal operating temperature efficiently and then helps control temperature by allowing coolant to circulate through the radiator.

VIN confirmation required before ordering
Cross-application does not mean all engines within those model ranges use this component. Match the engine and reference number, then use VIN confirmation.
DO NOT ORDER FOR THESE FIAT 500 ENGINE FAMILIES
Not intended for the 0.9 TwinAir engine family.
Not intended for the 1.0 mild-hybrid engine family.
Not intended for 1.3 MultiJet diesel applications.
Not intended for 1.4 / Abarth turbo applications.
Do not purchase if your existing housing has a different part reference, hose layout, connector arrangement or mounting pattern.
BUY THE CORRECT PART FIRST TIME
We strongly recommend comparing your removed component with every listing photograph. Check the casting shape, mounting ears, hose connections, temperature-sensor connector and reference number.

Photographs are an excellent physical-layout check, but they cannot replace VIN verification. If anything is uncertain, contact us through eBay Messages with the vehicle VIN before ordering.
POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS OF A FAULT
• Visible coolant leaking or staining around the housing.
• Coolant level repeatedly dropping.
• Engine running hotter than normal or overheating.
• Temperature gauge fluctuating abnormally.
• Engine taking unusually long to reach normal temperature.
• Poor cabin-heater performance.
• Temperature-related warning or sensor fault.
• Coolant smell or evidence of dried coolant around the engine outlet area.
These symptoms can have more than one cause. Proper diagnosis should be carried out before parts are replaced. Continuing to drive an overheating engine can result in serious engine damage.
WHY CHOOSE AN ORIGINAL FACTORY-FIT USED COMPONENT?
A correctly identified original factory-fit component was designed around the vehicle's original mounting points, coolant connections, connector geometry and engine packaging. That can reduce the risk of poor alignment, incorrect hose positioning or modification sometimes encountered with very low-cost copy components.

Buying a quality used component also offers the opportunity for substantial savings compared with buying the equivalent component brand new. The actual saving depends on the part and current market price.

Most importantly, correct identification matters more than price: always match the reference number, photographs and VIN before purchase.
FITTING OVERVIEW
1. Work only with the engine completely cold.
2. Disconnect the battery negative terminal where the vehicle repair procedure requires it.
3. Drain sufficient coolant into a suitable clean drain container.
4. Remove intake ducting / air-cleaner components as required for access.
5. Disconnect the temperature-sensor electrical connector.
6. Release the coolant hose clamps and carefully disconnect the hoses.
7. Remove the housing mounting bolts and remove the old housing.
8. Carefully clean the mating surface without damaging or gouging the aluminium.
9. Fit the correct new seal / gasket / O-ring specified for the VIN and application.
10. Refit the housing and tighten fasteners evenly to the manufacturer-specified torque for your exact VIN.
11. Reconnect hoses, clamps and the electrical connector.
12. Refill with the correct coolant specification for the vehicle.
13. Bleed the cooling system using the vehicle-specific procedure.
14. Bring the engine to operating temperature and inspect carefully for leaks.
15. Allow the engine to cool completely and recheck coolant level.
No universal bolt torque is stated here because torque specifications must be obtained from the correct repair information for the exact VIN. Never open a hot cooling system.
TYPICAL TOOLS & CONSUMABLES
• Metric socket set and ratchet
• Suitable extensions
• Torque wrench
• Hose-clamp pliers
• Coolant drain container
• Funnel or cooling-system filling equipment
• Suitable pick / small screwdriver where required
• Protective gloves and eye protection
• Correct coolant specification for the vehicle
• Correct new seal / gasket / O-ring where required
ESTIMATED REPAIR TIME & GARAGE LABOUR COST
A reasonable independent-workshop planning allowance for this type of replacement is approximately 1.0 to 1.5 labour hours. This is an estimate rather than an official flat-rate time. Corrosion, access, seized fasteners, cooling-system bleeding and additional faults can change the time required.
LABOUR ESTIMATE = GARAGE HOURLY RATE × TIME REQUIRED
Garage rate 1.0 hour 1.5 hours
£40/hr £40 £60
£50/hr £50 £75
£60/hr £60 £90
£70/hr £70 £105
£80/hr £80 £120
£90/hr £90 £135
£100/hr £100 £150
£120/hr £120 £180
Labour figures are examples only and exclude coolant, seals, diagnostic work, additional repairs, taxes or other workshop charges.
FITTING SERVICE MAY BE AVAILABLE
We may be able to provide fitting for qualifying parts subject to workshop availability. Please contact us through eBay Messages before ordering if fitting is required. Labour, coolant and additional consumables are quoted separately.
