This listing is for the complete radiator and twin electric cooling-fan assembly shown in the photographs. Do not order from the vehicle year alone. Match the part number where available and, most importantly, compare your existing unit with the photographs: fan count, shroud shape, electrical plugs, hose outlets, mounting points, sensor/port locations and cooling-pack arrangement must correspond.

VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY & FITMENT CHART
The table intentionally separates the primary advertised hatchback application from radiator-core-family cross-references. This prevents a core-only catalogue match being mistaken for confirmation of the complete fan assembly.
Vehicle Engine Years Fitment Status
Focus Mk1 Hatchback DAW/DBW — 5 Door 1.8 TDCi 115 PS — F9DA / F9DB 2001–2004 PRIMARY APPLICATION. Still match complete assembly, connectors, hoses, mounts and fan layout.

Focus Mk1 Saloon DFW 1.8 TDCi 115 PS — F9DA / F9DB 2001–2004 RADIATOR-CORE FAMILY CROSS-REFERENCE ONLY. Do not buy unless the complete assembly matches.
Focus Mk1 Estate DNW 1.8 TDCi 115 PS — F9DA / F9DB 2001–2004 RADIATOR-CORE FAMILY CROSS-REFERENCE ONLY. Do not buy unless the complete assembly matches.
DO NOT ASSUME FITMENT TO:
Focus Mk2 / C307; other Ford models; 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0 petrol applications; ST170; RS; TDDi/DI applications; automatic-transmission cooling arrangements; 3-door, saloon, estate or van variants unless the complete assembly has been separately verified; or any car with a different fan count, fan plug, shroud, hose outlet, mounting point, sensor/port or air-conditioning cooling-pack configuration.
BUY THE CORRECT PART FIRST TIME
1. Compare 98AB8005MF or the number on your original component where visible.

2. Count the electric fans and compare the complete shroud outline.

3. Compare every electrical plug, wire position and retaining clip.

4. Compare upper/lower hose-neck positions, mounting feet, locating pins and any sensor openings.

5. Compare your existing assembly side-by-side with the actual photographs above.
Unsure? Contact us through eBay Messages before ordering with your registration/VIN, original part number and clear photographs of your existing assembly. We can help with fitment verification.

📍 WHERE IS THE PART FITTED?
The engine radiator forms part of the front cooling pack, behind the front grille/bumper area and ahead of the engine. On air-conditioned cars the condenser is normally positioned within the same front cooling-pack area. The electric fans pull air through the cooling surfaces when extra airflow is required.
WHAT DOES THIS PART CONTROL?
The radiator removes excess heat from the engine coolant before the coolant returns to the engine. The electric cooling fans provide forced airflow through the cooling pack when road speed alone does not provide enough airflow, particularly during traffic, idling, hot-weather operation or increased cooling demand.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF A COOLING-PACK FAULT
• Coolant level repeatedly falling or visible coolant leakage.
• Wet staining or coolant residue around radiator tanks, seams or hose connections.
• Engine temperature rising above normal operating range.
• Overheating particularly when stationary or travelling slowly.
• Electric cooling fan failing to run when required.
• Unusual fan bearing, motor or blade noise.
• Steam or coolant smell from the front of the vehicle.
• Damaged, badly corroded or restricted radiator fins.
• Poor cooling-system pressure retention.
These symptoms can also be caused by thermostats, water pumps, coolant leaks, wiring, relays, sensors, head-gasket faults or other cooling-system problems. Correct diagnosis is recommended before replacing parts.
WHY CHOOSE A CORRECTLY MATCHED ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER COMPONENT?
When the engineering number and physical configuration match, an original manufacturer-produced component retains the factory-style mounting geometry, hose locations, connector positions, fan/shroud arrangement and packaging envelope the vehicle was designed around.
Very low-cost pattern replacements may be produced to different material, mounting or dimensional tolerances. That does not mean every alternative component is unsuitable, but it makes accurate specification matching especially important for a cooling assembly where hose location, airflow, mounting and electrical connection all matter.
A carefully selected pre-owned manufacturer component can also provide substantial savings compared with purchasing a new manufacturer-branded replacement. The actual saving varies by part, supplier and current new-part pricing.
FITTING GUIDE
Safety: work only with a completely cold engine. Never remove a pressurised expansion-tank cap from a hot cooling system. Correctly support the vehicle if it must be raised. Air-conditioning refrigerant must not be deliberately released — use a qualified technician where the condenser/circuit requires specialist work.
1. Allow the engine to become fully cold and disconnect the battery negative terminal where appropriate.

2. Remove any undertray, intake ducting or front/top covers required for safe access.

3. Drain the engine coolant into a suitable clean container and dispose/recycle it responsibly if it will not be reused.

4. Photograph and label fan connectors, wiring clips and hose positions before disconnection.

5. Disconnect the cooling-fan electrical plugs and release the loom from the shroud.

6. Release radiator hoses/clamps carefully and cap exposed openings where practical.

7. If the air-conditioning condenser is fixed to the radiator, support and separate it carefully without opening the refrigerant circuit.

8. Support the cooling pack, release its upper/lower mounting points and remove the radiator/fan assembly using the correct workshop procedure.

9. Before installing the replacement, place both assemblies side-by-side and compare number, fan count, plugs, mounts, hose outlets and every port.

10. Transfer only matching rubber mounts, clips or brackets that are required and serviceable.

11. Install the assembly, reconnect hoses/wiring and secure all mounts correctly.

12. Refill with the correct Ford-specification coolant mixture, bleed the cooling system using the correct repair procedure and check carefully for leaks.

13. Confirm normal operating temperature and cooling-fan operation, then recheck coolant level once the engine is fully cold.
REQUIRED TOOLS
Metric socket and spanner set • screwdriver/trim-tool set • hose-clamp pliers • standard pliers • drain pan • filling funnel • suitable jack and axle stands if access requires lifting • gloves/eye protection • torque wrench where specified by repair data • correct replacement coolant.
Estimated workshop time: approximately 2–3 hours. This is a planning estimate rather than a manufacturer labour time. Corroded fasteners, trim removal, cooling-pack variation, additional faults or air-conditioning related work can increase the time required.

FINAL FITMENT CHECK
Vehicle compatibility databases can contain errors or may identify only the radiator core rather than the complete fan/shroud assembly. The photographs of this actual item are therefore an essential part of the fitment check. If anything on your old assembly differs, contact us through eBay Messages before ordering.
