WHERE IT IS FITTED & WHAT IT CONTROLS

This module is normally mounted in the boot or luggage-compartment electronics area behind trim, often on a bracket with other audio/communication units. The exact side differs by model, body style and factory equipment, so identify the existing unit before removing trim.

REAR SEAT / LOAD AREA BOOT SIDE OR REAR TRIM TYPICAL MODULE RACK

The unit forms part of the factory hands-free telephone system. It communicates on the MOST optical ring and may interface with COMAND/audio equipment, the phone cradle or adapter, microphone, instrument display and steering-wheel telephone buttons. Vehicle coding and the installed phone adapter still determine the available functions.

POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS OF A FAULT
  • Telephone menu unavailable, inactive or showing a system-unavailable message.
  • No hands-free call function, pairing or connection through the fitted phone adapter.
  • Steering-wheel telephone buttons do not operate as expected.
  • Microphone input, call audio or caller information is missing.
  • The module cannot be reached by a suitable Mercedes diagnostic system.
  • A failed MOST node interrupts or destabilises related audio/communication equipment on the optical ring.

GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Confirm compatibility first: photograph the original label and check A2118703226, UHI/MOST wording, casing and connectors.
  2. Park safely, open the luggage compartment, switch the ignition off, remove the key and allow approximately 10–15 minutes for vehicle modules to enter sleep mode.
  3. Follow the correct workshop procedure for the vehicle. Disconnect the battery negative terminal where required, taking account of memory, window, steering-angle and security procedures.
  4. Remove the relevant boot-floor, rear or side-trim panels using non-marking tools. Keep clips and fasteners organised.
  5. Locate the telephone module and re-check its label before disconnection. Take a clear photograph of every connector position.
  6. Release the electrical plug and MOST fibre connector carefully. Do not pull the fibre by the cable, bend it tightly, touch the optical ends or allow dirt into the connector.
  7. Remove the retaining screws/bracket, transfer any required mounting pieces and install the replacement without trapping wiring.
  8. Reconnect all plugs fully, restore the battery connection if disconnected, switch the system on and check telephone, microphone, steering controls and related audio functions.
  9. Scan the vehicle for faults. Coding, variant configuration or MOST-ring diagnosis may be required if the module is not recognised immediately.
  10. Refit trim only after a complete functional test.
