MERCEDES-BENZ STARTER MOTOR
Mercedes vehicles can use different starter motors within the same model and registration year. Do not order from registration year alone. Compare the number, electrical terminals, mounting points and photographs with your existing starter. If unsure, contact us before purchase for compatibility assistance.

✕ DO NOT BUY IF...
- Your removed starter has a different non-superseded Mercedes part number.
- The mounting flange, bolt pattern or electrical terminals differ from the listing photographs.
- Your engine/vehicle variant is not supported by the applicable cross-reference.
- You are selecting solely because the vehicle is described as a W211 or because the registration year appears correct.
- Your vehicle uses a different starter power rating, pinion arrangement or mounting configuration.

WHAT DOES THE STARTER MOTOR DO?
The starter converts electrical energy from the vehicle battery into mechanical rotation. When the start command is given, the starter solenoid engages the pinion with the engine flywheel/flexplate ring gear. The motor then rotates the crankshaft fast enough for the diesel engine to begin combustion and run independently.
Where is it fitted?
On the applicable W211 CDI installation the starter is mounted low in the engine/transmission area, where it engages the ring gear. Access is therefore considerably more involved than replacing an upper-engine electrical component.
COMMON STARTER MOTOR FAULT SYMPTOMS
- Engine does not crank when the key/start command is operated.
- Single click or repeated clicking during a start attempt.
- Intermittent starting, particularly when hot.
- Starter spins but engine does not crank correctly.
- Slow or laboured cranking despite a serviceable charged battery.
- Grinding or abnormal mechanical noise during starting.
- Starter remains engaged longer than expected.
These symptoms can also be caused by a weak battery, poor earth connection, damaged positive cable, relay/fuse issues, ignition/start-control faults or wiring problems. Diagnose the starting circuit before replacing components.
WHY BUY A USED ORIGINAL-MANUFACTURER PART?
A correctly identified original-manufacturer component was engineered around the vehicle's mounting, electrical and mechanical requirements. A used original component can therefore provide a cost-effective alternative to purchasing the equivalent part new while retaining the correct factory-type construction.
♻️ Depending on the component and current new-part pricing, buying quality used car parts can save as much as 70% versus buying new.
Always compare actual condition and part identification. Price savings vary by component and market price.
FITTING OVERVIEW
