Construction Black rigid formed filler-neck assembly with integral mounting features and filler-cap connection. Exact material/polymer grade is not marked clearly enough in the photographs to claim a specification.
IMPORTANT — CHECK FITMENT BEFORE ORDERING
Do not order this part simply because your registration year, engine size or an automated compatibility checker appears similar. Mercedes used different configurations across model, body and production variants.
For the lowest risk of an incorrect order, compare: vehicle VIN/type, engine code, complete shape of your old filler neck, lower connection, mounting tabs/brackets, fixing-hole positions and filler-cap end.
If you are unsure, contact ThePartPilot through eBay Messages before ordering and provide your full VIN plus clear photographs of the existing part.

Visual-fitment check: pay particular attention to the overall curvature, lower connection, fixing/mounting ears, bracket location and filler-cap end. If your original differs, do not install this part until compatibility has been verified.
Where Is This Part Fitted?
This component is fitted in the engine bay. It creates the remote filling path between the accessible engine-oil filler opening/cap and the engine's lower oil-fill connection.
FIT LOCATION / FLOW
ENGINE BAY   →   OIL FILLER CAP   →   CURVED FILLER NECK / TUBE   →   ENGINE OIL-FILL CONNECTION
What does it control? This is not an electronic control component. Its function is mechanical: it provides a correctly routed and sealed path for adding engine oil while positioning the filler cap where it can be accessed for servicing.

Do Not Order For These Applications
Mercedes Vito / Viano W639 Later-generation vehicle — not this W638 application.
Mercedes Vito / V-Class W447 Later-generation vehicle — not this W638 application.
W638 108 D / 110 D 2.3 Different non-CDI OM601 engine family.
W638 113 / 114 petrol Different petrol-engine application.
Other Mercedes OM611 vehicles Do not assume fitment simply because an OM611-family engine is fitted. Chassis routing and mounting geometry can differ.
Also do not assume that every 1999–2003 Mercedes van uses this filler neck. The shape and connections must be checked.
Possible Signs Your Existing Filler Neck Needs Attention
Oil residue or seepage around the neck, cap or lower connection.
Visible cracking, splitting or distortion in the filler tube.
Broken or weakened mounting points allowing the tube to move excessively.
Oil spilling during topping-up because the neck is damaged or incorrectly seated.
Oil smell or local oil misting around a damaged or poorly sealed filler area.
Contamination risk if the filler opening or neck is cracked and no longer properly protected.
These are typical diagnostic clues rather than proof that the filler neck is faulty. Diagnose the vehicle before replacing parts.
Why Choose a Used Original-Manufacturer Component?
Factory geometry: an original-manufacturer component was designed around the vehicle's original mounting locations, routing and adjoining interfaces.
Correct moulded shape: filler-neck curvature and bracket position matter. An inaccurately shaped replacement can create installation and sealing problems.
Value: on selected components, buying a serviceable used original-manufacturer part can save as much as 70% compared with the equivalent new component. Actual saving varies by part and current new price.
Reuse: keeping a serviceable existing component in circulation extends its useful life instead of automatically replacing it with newly manufactured stock.
Fitting Guide
Important: this is a general workshop guide, not a substitute for the Mercedes workshop procedure for your VIN. If you are not competent to carry out engine-bay repairs safely, use a qualified technician.
Suggested Tools
Metric socket and ratchet set
Short socket extension
Suitable trim/clip tool if surrounding covers obstruct access
Torque wrench for final tightening to the correct vehicle specification
Small hook/pick only where required for seal removal
Protective gloves, clean workshop cloths and suitable degreaser
Replacement seal / O-ring / grommet if the removed sealing component is hardened, damaged or cut
General Procedure
1. Park securely on level ground, switch the ignition off and allow the engine to cool.
2. Clean dirt and oil from around the filler area before opening the system.
3. Remove only the engine covers, ducts or adjacent components necessary for safe access.
4. Photograph the original filler-neck routing and bracket locations before removal.
5. Remove the filler cap and release the retaining bracket/fixing points.
6. Carefully withdraw the lower filler-neck connection and immediately protect the engine opening from dirt or debris.
CRITICAL PRE-FIT CHECK:
Place your original and replacement filler necks side-by-side. Compare overall length and curvature, lower connection diameter/design, mounting tabs, bracket locations, fixing-hole positions and cap-end design. If any significant feature differs, stop and verify fitment before fitting.
7. Inspect the lower seal/grommet and filler-cap seal. Renew damaged sealing components as required.
8. Install the replacement in the original routing without forcing or twisting the assembly.
9. Ensure wiring, hoses and ducts are not trapped or rubbing against the filler neck.
10. Tighten fixings to the Mercedes specification applicable to the vehicle VIN. Do not guess torque values.
11. Refit removed covers/ducting and confirm the filler cap engages and seals correctly.
12. Clean any residual oil, run the engine and inspect the area for seepage. Recheck after a heat cycle.
Estimated Repair Time & Garage Labour Cost
For planning purposes only, a straightforward filler-neck replacement with normal access may be approximately 0.5–1.0 labour hour. This is not an official Mercedes flat-rate time. Corrosion, damaged fixings, difficult access, additional seals or other defects may increase labour.
Labour estimate = repair time × garage hourly rate
Garage Rate 0.5 Hour 0.75 Hour 1.0 Hour
£60/hour £30 £45 £60
£80/hour £40 £60 £80
£100/hour £50 £75 £100
£120/hour £60 £90 £120
£150/hour £75 £112.50 £150
Labour figures are illustrative only and exclude replacement components, diagnostics, additional repairs and any other garage charges.
