🚙 WHERE DOES THIS PART FIT?
This assembly is mounted inside the shell of the LEFT REAR passenger door, behind the interior door trim and moisture membrane. The latch sits at the rear edge of the door where it engages with the body-mounted striker.

FRONT LEFT / NSF ❌ NOT THIS PART |
REAR LEFT / NSR ✅ THIS PART |
5-door body only: a three-door RAV4 does not have this rear side door position, therefore this NSR rear-door assembly cannot be used on the three-door body.

BUY THE CORRECT PART FIRST TIME
Vehicle registrations alone are not always enough to identify a part correctly. Manufacturers can change connectors and components during a model's production run.
Before ordering, compare all of the following:
1. Vehicle model and generation — RAV4 Mk2 / XA20
2. Five-door body style
3. NSR / left-rear position
4. Existing electrical connector and pin layout
5. Latch casing and mounting-hole positions
6. Rod/cable arrangement
7. Any readable number on your original component
WHAT DOES THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR CONTROL?
The assembly combines the mechanical door latch with the electrical central-locking mechanism. Its job is to hold the rear door securely closed, release the latch when the appropriate handle mechanism is operated, and respond to the vehicle's central locking system.
It interfaces with the external and internal handle mechanisms, locking linkage/cables, electrical central-locking circuit and the rear-door child-lock mechanism.
⚠️ COMMON SYMPTOMS OF A FAILING DOOR LOCK / ACTUATOR
• Rear-left door fails to unlock from the remote or central locking switch
• Locking works intermittently
• Actuator clicks or makes noise without moving the lock fully
• Door remains permanently locked or unlocked
• Lock button movement appears weak or incomplete
• Interior or exterior handle may fail to release correctly if the mechanical latch is damaged
• Door may require repeated operation before opening or securing properly
WHY CHOOSE AN ORIGINAL TOYOTA FACTORY-SPECIFICATION PART?
An original manufacturer component was designed around the vehicle's original mounting points, connector design, cable travel and latch geometry. This can make a correctly matched original component a sensible alternative to an inexpensive pattern part where connector dimensions, lever movement or moulding tolerances may differ.
Choosing a quality pre-owned original part can also provide a substantial saving compared with purchasing the equivalent component new. Savings vary according to the particular component, condition and current new-part pricing.
The most important factor is still correct identification: always match the part before purchase rather than ordering on price alone.
🔧 FITTING GUIDE
Typical tools required:
Plastic trim-removal tools • Phillips screwdriver • 10 mm socket/ratchet •
suitable Torx-bit set • small flat screwdriver/pick • long-nose pliers •
protective tape • work light
Typical replacement procedure:
1. Switch the ignition off and make the vehicle electrically safe before beginning work.
2. Open the NSR / left-rear door and protect painted and interior surfaces.
3. Remove the inner-handle trim, grab-handle fixings and door-card retaining screws/clips.
4. Carefully lift away the rear door trim panel and disconnect any electrical plugs attached to it.
5. Peel back the moisture/vapour membrane carefully so it can be resealed afterwards.
6. Photograph the original lock's cable and rod routing before disconnecting anything.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the lock/actuator.
8. Release the internal handle/locking cables and relevant exterior-handle linkage from the latch.
9. Remove the latch retaining fasteners from the rear edge of the door using the correct Torx tool.
10. Withdraw the lock assembly through the door access aperture without damaging the wiring or membrane.
11. Compare old and replacement parts side-by-side before final installation.
12. Refit the replacement assembly, reconnect linkages and electrical connector and secure the fasteners correctly.
13. With the door still open, test latch movement, inner/outer handle operation, central locking and child-lock function.
14. Reseal the moisture membrane and refit the door trim once correct operation has been confirmed.
