📍 WHERE IS THIS PART FITTED?
These Volvo models use a twin-lock arrangement across the front of the bonnet. This component is catalogued as the right-hand lock. It secures one side of the bonnet to the vehicle and is released by the bonnet-release cable.
The photographed unit also includes an electrical connection. On appropriately equipped vehicles this type of connection can be associated with bonnet-status / alarm monitoring. Because specification varies, the connector on your vehicle must match the photographs.
WHAT DOES THE BONNET LOCK DO?
The bonnet lock is a safety-critical mechanical retention component. When the bonnet is closed, the latch captures the bonnet striker and keeps the bonnet securely locked. Pulling the interior bonnet-release handle moves the release cable, allowing the lock mechanism to release.
A correctly operating latch must both secure the bonnet reliably and release smoothly when requested. Worn, seized, damaged or incorrectly adjusted locks can create closing and release problems and should not be ignored.
🔧 COMMON SYMPTOMS OF A FAULTY BONNET LOCK
• Bonnet needs excessive force before it catches
• Interior release lever feels unusually loose, stiff or inconsistent
• One bonnet latch releases but the other remains locked
• Latch mechanism sticks after the bonnet is opened
• Bonnet sits raised or uneven after closing
• Visible corrosion, broken spring components or damaged cable interface
• Alarm / bonnet-open indication may occur on vehicles where the latch specification includes monitoring
WHY CHOOSE A FACTORY-ORIGINAL RECYCLED PART?
This component was manufactured to the vehicle manufacturer's original design requirements, giving you the correct mounting geometry, cable relationship, latch travel and vehicle-specific form when the correct part number is selected.
Lower-cost replacement copies can vary in dimensions, finish and mechanism feel. Choosing the correct factory-original recycled component lets you retain the type of component originally engineered around the vehicle while avoiding the cost of purchasing the equivalent part new.
🛠️ GENERAL FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Park on a level surface, switch the ignition off, remove the key and securely open the bonnet. Allow hot engine-bay components to cool.
STEP 2 — Photograph / mark original alignment
Before loosening the original latch, photograph its position and mark its alignment. Bonnet-lock adjustment affects how securely and evenly the bonnet closes.
STEP 3 — Gain access
Depending on model, access may require removal or repositioning of front trim and/or a headlamp assembly. Avoid pulling wiring or clips unnecessarily.
STEP 4 — Disconnect cable and connector
Carefully disconnect the bonnet-release cable from the original latch. If your vehicle uses an electrical connector at this position, disconnect it without pulling on the wires.
STEP 5 — Remove latch
Support the latch and remove its retaining bolts. The installation commonly uses two latch retaining points. Keep the original fasteners unless replacements are specifically required.
STEP 6 — Compare parts side-by-side
Before installation, compare part number, connector, mounting points, cable attachment and latch profile. If anything differs, stop and verify fitment before proceeding.
STEP 7 — Install replacement
Install the replacement lock in approximately the same marked position. Connect the release cable and electrical plug where applicable. Initially leave adjustment bolts sufficiently loose for alignment.
STEP 8 — Align carefully
Check the bonnet striker alignment before fully tightening. Do not repeatedly slam the bonnet during adjustment.
STEP 9 — Functional test
Once aligned and tightened, test bonnet closing, primary locking, safety catch and interior release several times. Confirm both bonnet locking points operate correctly.
TOOLS & ESTIMATED REPAIR TIME

| Professional Time Guide | Approximately 30–60 minutes, subject to access and adjustment |
| DIY Allowance | Allow approximately 45–90 minutes if unfamiliar with the vehicle |
